General Information

V. Ye. Lashkaryov Institute of Semiconductor Physics of NAS of Ukraine (in what follows - the Institute) was founded in 1960 being based on departments and laboratories of the Institute of Physics of Academy of Sciences of the USSR Council of Ministers from 3 September, 1960, No. 1449 "On organization of the Institute of Semiconductors in the membership of USSR Academy of Sciences" and the corresponding decree of the Presidium of USSR Academy of Sciences from 7 October, 1960.

At that time, a decisive role was played by the fact that the Institute of Physics had already famous scientific schools for physics of non-equilibrium processes in semiconductors as well as for theory of semiconductors headed by Academician of AS of the USSR, Prof. V. Ye. Lashkaryov, and Dr. Sci. (Phys&Math), Prof. S. I. Pekar. Among the awards established in Ukrainian scientists, there are awards by the names of V. Ye. Lashkaryov and S. I. Pekar.

A great contribution into creation and organization for the further activity of the Institute was also made by the first Heads of scientific-research department and labs founded in 1960-61th, namely: Dr. Sci. (Phys&Math) M. F. Deygen, Cand. Sci. (Phys&Math) M. P. Lysytsya, Dr Sci. (Phys&Math) Prof. V. I. Lyashenko, Cand. Sci. (Chem) I. B. Mizetska, Cand. Sci. (Phys&Math) O. G. Miselyuk, Cand. Sci. (Phys&Math) Ye. I. Rashba, Cand. Sci. (Tech) S. V. Svechnikov, Cand. Sci. (Phys&Math) O. V. Snitko, Cand. Sci. (Phys&Math) G. A. Fedorus.

In accord once with the decree of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine from 30 December, 1992, No. 353, the Institute of Semiconductors was renamed by "The Institute of Semiconductor Physics".

According to the decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine from 25 December, 2002, No. 714-r "On conferring the name by V. Ye. Since 1991 up to 2003, the Institute was directed by Academician of NAS of Ukraine Sergiy Vasil'ovich Svechnikov. Since 2003, the Institute is headed by Academician of NAS of Ukraine, Vladimir Fedorovich Machulin.

At our Institute, several famous Ukrainian scientists worked and are working now, and among them 6 Academicians of Ukrainian NAS: V. Ye. Lashkaryov (1903-1974), M. P. Lysytsya, S. I. Pekar (1917-1985), O. V. Snitko (1928-1990), S. V. Svechnikov, V. F. Machulin; 10 Corresponding Members of NAS of Ukraine: O. Ye. Beliayev, M. Ya. Valakh, Ye. F. Venger, M. F. The Institute develops a fruitful scientific and scientificand-technical cooperation with several universities and scientific centers of USA, Great Britian, France, Italy, Spain, Israel, Japan, Germany, China etc., and also keeps tight scientific contacts with leading scientific instituions of Russia, BGaltic countries, as well as other countries of FSU.

The Institute publishies the colbeted of original papers and reviews "Optoelectronics and semiconductor technigue" as well as international scientific journal "Semiconductor Physics, Quantum Electronics & Optoelectronics" that in its full volume is published and spread in English.

A great attention is paid to education and preparation of scientific personnel. There is a system for preparation of scientific personnel. There is a system for preparation of Candidates and Doctors of Sciences via postgraduate studies and doctoral fellowships. Specialised scientific councils works to defend the doctoral theses (by the following specialities: 01.04.10 - physics of semiconductors and dielectrics; 01.04.18 - physics and chemistry of surface; 05.12.20 - optoelectronics systems) as well as candidate theses (by the specialities: 01.04.01 - physics of devices, ele3ments and systems; 01.04.07 - physics of solids; 05.27.01 - solid state electronics; 05.27.06 - technology, equipment and production of electronics).
